Reading is one of the largest towns in the UK and is becoming a major infrastructure node for access into central London. Broad Street Mall was the original centre in the town, but had been left without investment for many years. The asset was acquired through a joint venture partnership with a view to undertaking an appropriate mall refurbishment, with proposals to broaden the offer in the centre and create a vibrant, attractive environment. The acquisition took place in June 2015, and refurbishment began on the Mall and office building in March 2016.
Regarded by the population as Reading’s favourite shopping centre, Broad Street Mall complements the other retail offers in the town, but has an enormous opportunity to significantly improve its prominence. Masterplanning discussions for a more comprehensive addition to the scheme are underway and will be delivered in the coming years. Tenants include New Look, TK Maxx and Wilko, as well as a variety of locally recognised brands.
Our proactive Centre Management team has increased footfall through the scheme in the past few years, despite the national downward trend. We have achieved this by attracting a broad range of retail and restaurant operators, and by developing a full events calendar. Our customers will always see something new in the schemes we operate.
