Dating back to 1855, the original Market Hall is one of the finest examples of market architecture in the UK. In 1988, it was extended and officially opened in 1988 by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Further development took place in 2006, when the Market Hall closed and underwent a major redevelopment.
Moorgarth acquired Market Place in December 2013, identifying that the centre desperately needed investment and repositioning to meet the demands of the modern retail and leisure market. Partnering with the local authority, we formulated proposals to completely reposition the scheme. Through careful and sympathetic design, identifying opportunity and delivering an incredibly complex refurbishment, the scheme now boasts a vibrant and exciting physical environment. This includes a mix of national and independent retail and restaurant brands, a nine-screen cinema, and the ever-popular kids’ indoor adventure zone, Amazonia.
